Scenarios

ScenarioDescription
ReferenceThe 'Reference' scenario serves as the basis for comparison with the other scenarios. The scenario represents a fully optimised scenario with reduction of energy-related CO2 emissions of 65% in 2030, 88% in 2040 and 100% in 2045.
PersistenceThe 'Persistence' scenario is based on the 'Reference' scenario. However, it is assumed that there will be greater resistance to the use of new technologies in the end-user sector. In the building sector, it is therefore assumed that there will be a partial insistence on gas boilers, a lower renovation rate, and a remaining proportion of combustion engines in individual motorized transport.
Non-AcceptanceThe 'Non-Acceptance' scenario is based on the 'Reference' scenario. However, it assumes a lower acceptance of large infrastructure measures, such as the expansion of wind energy plants, transmission grids and motorway overhead lines for heavy goods vehicles.
SufficiencyThe 'Sufficiency' scenario is based on the 'Reference' scenario. However, it assumes a societal shift towards more sufficient behaviour and an increase in efficiency in a relevant range, which lead to a significant reduction in energy consumption.
