# Energy-Charts

> Energy-Charts (energy-charts.info) is a free, interactive data platform by Fraunhofer ISE providing charts and open data on electricity production, electricity prices, emissions, installed capacity, and climate data for Germany and other European countries. All chart data is available as JSON files that may be freely used for non-commercial and journalistic purposes with attribution to "Energy-Charts / Fraunhofer ISE".

Key facts for machine consumption:

- Every chart lives at `https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/<chart_name>/chart.htm`.
- Every chart directory contains a `manifest.json` indexing all of its JSON data files. Small charts use `"format": "full"` with an explicit file list (relative path, size, last-modified UTC timestamp, newest first). Large charts use `"format": "compact"`: the `patterns` array describes the directory structure as path templates such as `data/{dir}/week_{n1}_{n2}.json`, where `{dir}` takes the values listed in `dir_values` (e.g. country codes) and `{n1}`, `{n2}`, ... are integers within the inclusive `[min, max]` ranges in `number_ranges` (zero-padded as shown in `example`). Not every value combination necessarily exists as a file. Irregular files are listed explicitly under `files`. Resolve all paths against the manifest's `base_url`.
- Timestamp convention: in all time series data, each timestamp marks the BEGINNING of the period it represents. For example, a value with timestamp 12:00 in 15-minute resolution data covers the interval 12:00-12:15; a daily value with timestamp 2026-07-21 covers that entire day.

- A documented REST API for programmatic access is described at https://www.energy-charts.info/api.html
- Spot market price and futures data is licensed from EPEX SPOT / EEX and is NOT included in the manifests; it may not be redistributed.
