Explanation of the electricity traffic light
The electricity traffic light is intended to facilitate the management of demand to current generation. For this purpose, the share of renewable energies of the electrical load is used as a basis.
The traffic light colors are determined by a comparison with the average value of the monthly share of renewable energies of the same month of the last five years:
- Average ± 10 %: Yellow
- Above or share of renewables > 95 %: Green / blue
- Below: Red
A hysteresis of 1 % is used here to avoid too frequent color changes at the limits.
The forecast is usually available from 19:00 for the next day. The data is usually reloaded every hour to always show the latest forecast.
Explanation of the electricity price traffic light
The traffic light colors are calculated based on the price during the day: The 0.8 quantile and the 0.2 quantile are calculated for this purpose. For countries with multiple bidding zones, one traffic light is provided for each bidding zone.
- Green / Blue: Price < 0.2 quantil or price ≤ 0.00 €/MWh
- Yellow: 0.2 quantile ≤ price ≤ 0.8 quantile
- Red: Price > 0.8 quantile
